|

Ok. here it is !!! I've just finished composing the theme song for Kingdom Hearts Fan Album called "Eternal Dreams". Took me two days to compose this song. I have to admit that this song isnt really the kingdom hearts style of theme songs like Hikari and Passion. =p . This track is slightly influenced by Yasunori Mitsuda's style. ^^ Anyway, hope you'll enjoy the music and plz give some comments.

p/s: Wish someone can write the lyrics and sing for me. T_T

dude, this is some AWESOME stuff you got here. i rkn you'll be able to make it big if you worked for some game company. have you ever considered it ? , if not then it sure would be worth giving it a go.
oh, are you ever gonna make any FF compositions of your own ? |

| i've shortened the length of each music ???????? Oh really ? I dont want the same melody to be kept on looping for so many times. I tried to cut it short after each loop so that i can fit it more tracks in a disc. i'm targetting approx 30 tracks for this album. Imaggine ach track is 3 mins+ long, resulting in having 90 mins for 30 tracks. How can a 90 min album fit into a 70mins CD right ? Besides, i'm not really planning on making long melodies for each track as most kingdom hearts music are kinda short. wanna preserve that short style. ahhaha. =p |

We have been giving you honest comments. The music you compose is good, you have a real ear for melody. Although, if you want constructive criticism for your composing overall I can give you some.
When listening to your pieces, (not individually but overall) they have a tendency to sound similar. Think about using differnt chord progressions because at the moment they are all very similar. I mean, you execute them very well, the melodies you put on top of them are beautiful, but it just gives it a tad bit of predictability and cliche. Also think about using other notes besides chordal arpegio in your accompaniment...dissonace is a good thing when used in a tonal framework...try to incorparate it.
Also, try experimenting with different time signatures other than 4/4. 7/8 and 5/4 are a good place to start because they can offer broader rhythms. At the moment, your rhythms consist of quaver arpegios in the accompaniment, with a dotted crotchet/dotted crotchet/crotchet rhythm for melodic syncopation. Aim for some more syncopation in the accompaniment.
Anyway, I hope that's helpful for you. I couldn't give you a critical comment on your pieces indivudually because on their own, they sound wonderful. I wish I could just sit down and compose something beautiful like you do, but at the moment I can't because my time is taken up composing in the intellectual ie: ugly sound that they push at the con. Keep on composing because you have a natural nack for it, and in this world that isn't the most common thing. |

now. That's what i call an honest comment. Professional comment indeed but it's slightly beyond my music knowledge. >.< Lots of things i dont understand but i'll try to improve. ^^ U're right about the notes that i tend to start with for my compositions. I just love to start from there. ahahahah. Oh yeah, mind to explain in simple music terms ? I dont understand lots of the music theories u've stated. >.< Oh yeah, notice that some of the chorus part of the melody from Eternal Dreams (theme song) are being recycled and rearranged for Kairi since she's the main female char of Kingdom Hearts. Mostly female char themes are from theme songs. Trying to use that method. =p |

Hey Constaneum...sorry I didn't reply earlier...PS4 was busy. Ok, so what I was talking about.
Chord progessions: For this just think about other chordal jumps you can do. So, a good example...I don't know if you've used this one but it's good...is I, iii, IV, in Roman numerals. So in a c major scale that is a C Major triad (c, e, g) followed by an e minor triad (e, g, b) followed by an F Major Triad (f, a, c). Play around with that by using arpegios and then possibly think about jumping to chord 7 (vii) which would be a b minor triad (b, d, f) in a C Major scale. You can also use this chord progression in a minor context.
About dissonace: For this I would recomend looking at tri tonal chords, diminshed triads and 7th chords. A tri tone is an unstable inverval that is neither major nor minor...it's somewhere inbetween...it works best next to a minor chord though. A tri tone interval from the note c is f sharp. So to work that out count seven semitones (chromatic scale counting) from any note and you'll get a tri tone. So the one I listed is c to f sharp. A diminished chord is achieved by stacking minor thirds on top of each other. So starting from c, the chord is c, e flat, f sharp etc. Seventh chords are pretty easy...from a c major triad just add a b flat, or a b natural to the c triad.
To get an idea of how dissonance can work really well in tonal music, listening to "Nightmare of a cave" from FFX-2. (A bad game...but that piece is really good) Pay particular attention to the last 15 seconds of the piece because thats where all the stuff I've just listed comes into play. Maybe think about downloading the music for it as well because it gives you a good idea of what it looks like notated. I think you can find it here - http://ffmusic.ffshrine.org/ that website has all the final fantasy music.
Ok, and about rhythm: In 5/4 there's a lot of opportunity to use cool fast rhythms. A good pattern to use is one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, one, two...so that just quavers used in groups of twos and threes. Think about using off beat rhythms. The best way to illustrate a point for this is to give you a music example. Final fantasy VIII's "Don't be Afraid" is in 5/4. Pay close attention to the start where it has the 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,1,2 rhythm groupings.
Ok, well I guess I've covered everything. I'm not the best at explaining things so if it's still confusing just send me a PM. But I mean, with all that said, I'm not out to change your style. You are a fantastic composer! The only reason why I know this stuff is because I was formally trained at piano and now study music at a conservatorium. Composition isn't something that can be taught...you have to have a natural ability for it and that's what you have! I hope some of my comments have been of help and don't stop composing because you create beautiful pieces. |
