Who's a heavy downloader...raise your arms?!
o/
Well, im looking for an isp with a decent plan.
Ive looked at exetel's comments in their plan outline on whirlpool and read this
Quote: The current Exetel AUP states that the amount any user can download in this period is 36GB. If any user downloads more than 36GB in the uncounted period then Exetel may place them in a separate bandwidth pool for the remainder of the month and their download speeds may be affected in the uncounted period.
Which isnt great
Actually, when i look the rankings on whirlpool they're a joke =/
Then again, a large percentage of users on whirlpool arent heavy users and probably dont do more than 40gigs in a month >_<
What are some other ISPs out there that dont appear on the top 20 most popular ISPs? |

I personally use iinet, but their new plans are quite limited.
I hear internode is great, especially if you"re using the pipenetworks (unquota'd downloads ftw!) |

I used to download >100gb a month back when iinet was on the pipenetworks... now? I"m down to about 20gb.
Australian ISPs need to get a clue and upgrade to the plans other countries have... |

I think australian isp is just poor or users need to learn to download more therefore raising the demand and have suppliers meet that
if u can sponser me for a few HDD, then i will SHIFT that demand curve personally!!!!!! |

I'm on exetel at the moment, its probably the cheapest you can find in terms of download:cost ratio, but the service is a load of rubbish. You can read the whirlpool forums for that.
As Vonbon suggested, Internode is great, I used to be on them, but churned to exetel because I was greedy. Now I'm stuck on contract lol.
AAnet might be another alternative you want to look up as well. |

| Im on TPG ADSL2+ at the moment. If you don't mind having bad customer service or a bit of disconnection every now and then, its an ok ISP to go with since they are cheap Lol. |

For those who are interested in some general reading about their ISPs read this
http://whirlpool.net.au/survey/2005/
Patryn, yea i can afford, just want to know which one's more...cost effective =P
I have probably over 2TB of storage atm =/
ryunite, contract is something i dont like to be legally binded to =P When I choose ISPs i would most likely choose the lowest term with a reasonable upfront payment attached to it. 50$ abouts is acceptable.
Minty, telstra is one to avoid at all costs. Then most businesses love telstra because of its reliability
tuppa, budget...100-150/mth. Exchange? That im not say...though I know im over 3.5km away from it and wont get great reception from adsl2+ services =P |

whoa... 100 is enough to get a pretty good plan... prolly get a near unlimited plan with no shaping - if they even exist anymore...
Telstra is prolly reliable, but yeah... you pay through the nose for it! lol |

nononono... I'm sure there are some truly unlimited plans. They're just slower... and you pay through the nose to get them... or otherwise horrible service.
Hopefully, we'll get FTTN really soon! mmmmmmmmz... that'd be good.
But yeah... for now, go with the 40gig-80gig plans with shaping... prolly the best value for money deals out there are the 20-40gig plans with shaping.
Cable ftw, but ADSL is also a viable option. 20-40gigs only needs a 1Mbit connection and you'll be cruising! and you SHOULD be able to get those for around $50-70 depending on contract etc.
But i wouldn't know who to go with... TPG sounded nice, but i'm too lazy to read reviews. |

Waugh! What was that you just said about Telstra?
I heard that people complain about modems overheating, but maybe that's just us humble home users... |
