I like eminence really... it's prolly one of the few game/anime concerts you can find in australia, but the thing is, it's cool to go to it first year, and maybe second year... But then you start to notice the concert just revolves around the few titles over and over and over again... I mean there's nothing wrong with the songs but it's just kinda boring to listen to them again and again... Sure there are some new songs here and there but the majority are still Final Fantasy, Super mario bros, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Chrono Cross/Trigger songs... I mean surely there are many more wonder music songs out there... and same for the anime one... there are so many awesome anime ost out there but ghibli's stuff are always played over and over again.

I sincerely hope that this will change in the future...

I suppose that's true to a degree...

But being kinda semi-new to Eminence, I've only noticed the FF and Ghibli songs...
I've been in an exciting new period where Eminence has started to move away from those areas as the pieces are a little tired. Last year, they moved into lots of other animes in Piano Stories 4 which I thought was extremely good! This time, Eminence is bringing a concert solely focused on game music, so you will always have some Final Fantasy music (coz it's so good), but also a lot more of a variety of music from different games! If you look at where the music will be from, you'll see some favourites, but also ones that have never been done. Hopefully, there'll be more variety again in the next concerts but Eminence is making a start. But still, there are always favourites that never get tired for many people! ^^

Hope you come along and see/hear for yourself the ever-growing ESO! Very Happy

Attempting not to spoil the programme for those in Melbourne who don't want to know...

There are only two pieces in this year's gaming concert that we've performed before. Aside from that, we only JUST began to perform pieces from Chrono Trigger/Cross at Passion, beforehand we have to my knowledge never performed pieces from those titles. Eminence began primarily focussing on Final Fantasy and Studio Ghibli titles, and the perfect example was ANIF04, which was JUST that. ANIF05 began to branch out, ANIF06 followed suit and with our latest concert we have included many titles and pieces we've never performed.

While it can be argued that we have played FF/Ghibli/Mario a lot, FF & Ghibli are different titles and that fact must be taken into account. Final Fantasy XII for example is primarily composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto and has a very different sound to Uematsu's music.

I believe with A Night in Fantasia 2007 we have made a rather large step in a different direction from our previous concerts, considering. Australia is limited in the knowledge we have on games, that is to say a lot of titles do not get released here, and a great deal have not been yet. We are always striving to provide something different, and have changed a huge amount since our first few concerts.

Your suggestion is of course noted, but Kingdom Hearts for example as a series will now have had 3 pieces performed in about 4 years of concerts, and that includes all concerts. Zelda was only performed at ANIF05 & PSIV, and also will now have had only a handful of pieces performed.

Our past anime exploits can be summarised in a similar fashion, where in ANIF05 our orchestra saw a breakaway from only performing Ghibli, and we will continue in this trend.

The problem is of course that these pieces are not bad, they are in fact top quality. They are also popular, and while we are seeking to perform a great variety of pieces, people come to expect and want them, so there is a natural balance.

Personally I believe the pieces selected for ANIF07: SGE reflect a very healthy balance; less than a handful of previously performed pieces and the vast majority are new to our audience.

That said I understand the 'less FF/Ghibli, more other stuff' mentality. That is why we began to break away from that in 2005, and will continue to do so. Ensure you post suggestions of titles you would like to see performed on this forum, as we will be looking here when selecting pieces for future concerts. Obviously suggestions are just that, and depending on how we view them they may or may not be included.

Perhaps you will be interested to see my proposed Wiki, which would showcase a very large amount of information about Eminence for fans, and then you will see how little we have actually performed various titles, especially Chrono Trigger/Chross and Kingdom Hearts.

Note: I'm not trying to offend you here, I'm just confused since your post indicated we play Cross/Trigger/KH a lot, when we really don't...

Well actually, doing pieces from famous games have a lot advantages in dragging people to come and watch. In example, right now when I am trying to advertise to my friends, the first thing they would ask is from which games/animes will the pieces come from. And when I answer Final Fantasy, they would not hesitate to come, but since the Destiny Reunion doesnt have any pieces from FF, it makes it harder to persuade my friends to come and watch.

I can understand how some could get tired of repition, I guess.

But you have to be grateful that you can go to a concert every year.

I wish that I could go to more than one, but that would mean taking a plane half-way round the world.

I don't think I'd mind the repition. At all.
