Firstly great work to all involved.
aNiF07 Melb was the first eminence event I've attended... (and the first orchestral concert I've experienced). I felt it was very well performed and well organised.

There were a few aspects which I felt might make the performances even better if they can be improved. (signed up for the forum just so I can tell someone Razz

)

I haven't been to that many concerts and I suppose with the large number of people attending, some form of amplification is necessarily. I felt the volume from the speakers were a bit loud on the night, so much so that I cringed at some of the forte bits.. and it felt like there were a lot of those.

Is it possible to not amp the performance through speakers or is that not feasible in modern concerts? I know it depends on the acoustic performance of the venue, but good concert halls would have been designed with this in mind. The performances would have been a bit less artificial. I would have enjoyed listening to all the subtle and dynamic parts of the orchestra.

This might just be my personal preference, but I think a few more soft pieces would have been great to break up the tracklist. Pieces from Legend of Mana and Chrono Cross were great on the night, but I felt there were too many strong pieces (or maybe they were just overly loud from the speakers).

I agree, there were a few moments I had to block my *sensitive musician ears* because the amping was waaaaaaay too loud, but unfortunately, that problem is not Eminences, but the audiovisual staff at Hamer Hall, Arts Centre, as they were the ones who adjusted and were in control of all the amping etc.

This issue has been raised among the staff and we will try and find a resolution to make our future concerts even better and hopefully more comfortable for those with more sensitive ears i.e me included ^^

I was sitting with confuzzled kc during that same performance, and agree that it was too loud IN PARTS.

Sound balance is a very difficult thing to achieve, even in an acoustically-superior environment like Hamer Hall in the Arts Centre. To ensure that each section of the orchestra has an appropriate volume level relative to the other sections does require some amping to be done, especially with some of the music being played. With the orchestra configuration that we had, we would not have been able to achieve the right sound balance without any amping at all. During the initial rehearsals, where there wouldn't have been any amping, we had the situation where the brass instruments occaisionally overpowered the strings for example. The audio visual crew tried their best to achieve a reasonable compromise during the sound checks.

Nevertheless, I did find that it was a bit too loud overall, and some of the subtleties and detail may have been lost as a result. Not to mention having my audience partner having to block her ears at some of the louder crescendoes!

We have taken this feedback on board and will endeavour to improve this aspect for the next concert. Remember, we at Eminence are always keen to try and provide our audiences with the best possible experience each time Smile

Yeah some parts were quite loud... Annoying too that some parts I could barely hear (like Zane Banks with his guitar... I was straining to hear some parts he played...)

I couldn't really hear the Ito on the piano..... Neutral

but maybe that has something to do with me being on the balcony too

And I was a bit annoyed with the green screen Confused

Did anyone else experience that too?

couldn't hear the piano? I think I couldn't make out the piano in many places, but if it wasn't there, i'm pretty sure I'd know it was missing. But that's just me...

And green screen... I think I saw it once or twice. Wasn't that bad...and gone pretty quickly, so I didn't take much notice of it... I hear Sydney had it worse. ^^ but yesh... Hopefully next time, it'll be better and no green screen.

i always thought that it is usually best to only mic the piano and harp, but since i don't have any idea of what it sounded like in Melbourne. I'll just sit and read XD

guitar of course too, or whatever instrument is being solo-ed.

rest of the orchestra is usually loud enough in echoey rooms XD

The orchestra is a wee bit loud but I liked it that way when they played fantasia alla marcia =]

well, ur sitting position is quite important for such concert. paying expensive ticket for front seat doesnt assure you good quality sound. It's best to pick the middle seat. That's the seat i always pick when attending an orchestral concert.

Except the expensive seats at Eminence Concerts are at the middle...and the B are at the front. I guess, if your sitting at the middle, you are able to hear a great deal of the music whilst also being able to see the giant screen, where in the Front Row (B) you have the chance to be right next to the musicians and hear the music up close yet, can't see the screen.

although i was on the balcony, i was sitting dead set in the center and only for $30~ i was in row J though [near the back] but you could just see the overview of orchestra and the scree

i believe the choir and piano was definately crushed by the rest of the orchestra too!! but i loved the percussion-- they really rocked the show =]

I loved ANIF07, but at some parts it WAS too loud.
I have a weird right ear that wistles when loud, high-pitched noises enter it, and that really ruined a few parts for me. Sad

Great show anyway, though.

Its a shame there's no way to simulate surround sound without having audio equipment

radiohead did that for thier last tour i was told... every person in the audience had there very own pair of cordless/corded headphones ....

it would stop noise complaints from other shops and homes
