How does it relate to the books? Animated version or magical sidestory?
I know at least that the live action movie sucked, and ursula le guin confirmed that it was full of the suck...
Anyone seen this as well as read the books to give an opinion? |

| It's supposed to be animated version, but I'm not expecting too much more than magical sidestory. Apparently it's not that great and strays from the source material a lot. |

it was absolutely CONFUZZLING!
I was like HUH?! throughout the ENTIRE thing, coz a) i've never read the books, b) there didn't seem to be a real center plot, c) there was no explanation for ANYTHING!!!
*warning, spoilers ahead*
i mean, why and HOW on earth did she turn into a dragon at the end? and why did the bad guy look like a girl? and how did darkness run off with the main character's body? and why did he have to stab his father and run off with the sword? what was so special about the sword? what happened to the father/king?
OMG definitely not as good as all the other Studio Ghibli films.
ok. enough ranting |

Do we even need to know that kind of information Hiroaki?
Im slightly insulted in how you expressed that sentence about someone's son! |

*SPOILERS, perhaps*
that's pretty much all the questions i had after watching the movie...i mean besides the poor plot, there's not even a single memorable character in the film, and i think the lack of backstories had a lot to do with it
pretty much the only thing i liked was the beautiful acappella that the girl sung
and what the hell were the dragons for?? they only had 5% screen time and the ending just made it more non-sensical and pretentious
"Ok, we're gonna make the dragons seem like major players in the first 2 minutes, then ignore them for the whole movie, then bring em back for the final 2 minutes! NOW THAT'S ART + STORYTELLING!"
this movie made/makes me angry |
