People.. heard about this:

27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for..........

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.

It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Share this with your friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again .

is it true? if it is don't miss the opportunity to check on the sky at that time

If that is true than I will be sitting on my roof with a big pair of binoculars and a camera - not that it will pick up anything but you never know!

hahaha. stick it on a tripod and put it on longer exposure. ^^

it works... as long as it's on a tripod...

but u'll get a cool effect if you shake the camera in a nice way. xD

And the best part is that it wasn't intended as a pick up line. Hiro lives a couple of blocks from me - she's really taking obsession to the next level.

But getting back to the topic - it's not possible. Mars cannot come within 34.65 miles of the earth...nor can it look as big or as full as the moon...unless of course earths gravitational pull is now so strong that we're pulling all of the planets in to create a new big bang and thus proving the somewhat forgotten oscilation theory true...

Just google it.

Its a stupid email chain...

Supposedly almost vaguely true in 2003, now totally useless.

I think in her first post it was 34.65M miles (36,650,000 miles I believe)

But yeah...*shrugs* about the science, etc... I'll just have a look out the window like I always do. xD

Are you suggesting that there's a moon elsewhere?
Unless Hiro-san's watching sailor moon I doubt I'd find a moon in his house....
besides.... even if he was watching sailor moon, I wouldn't be able to see....
His TV is orienated in a fashion that it's contents cannot be seen from through his balcony.... It's facing inwards.....=/

Well ... there's always Cruithne. XD Altho it doesn't actually orbit around the earth... it orbits around the sun with a similar orbit to earth so it looks like earth's second moon. And you can't actually see it with the naked eye.

Person 1: "Okay, now look out for the star that's actually a planet but looks like a star!"
Person 2: "Come again?"

How did two moons come to end up being about Hiro-san['s TELEVISION!?] also?

*head explodes*

Anyway ...... no harm in a bit of star-gazing ...... I hope.

No harm in star gazing.... just depends on which stars you gaze at and through which windows ^^

It's definitely a hoax.

I heard somewhere that Mars is actually behind the sun right now. >.>;;

yeaa.. it's more likely to be a hoax... but a little bit of sky-gazing on the night doesn't hurt...

Thank you for the insight louise, I'll be sure to check it out! But I'm curious, can you shed some light and tell us where did you find this particular info, or is this based purely on speculation? Thanks in advance.

The Stare will only be as intense as the intensity of the stars themselves.

i believe there's prolly some truth in it... being, Mars'll be closer than it's ever been...but it won't be as big as a moon.

So yeah... prolly need a telescope or something to see it properly, and differentiate it, but then again... you might be able to see it's a redish star, rather than the yellow/white ones... ^^
