I've been thinking about getting an ipod for the past few days now.
The price premium of the nano for its small size takes it too close to the 30gb in my opinion.
The nano 4gb is $323 while the 30gb G5 ipod is "only" $403.
The size of the nano is really fantastic though. I saw a picture of a nano case that integrates the nano into a wallet.
JH, did you get any accessories with your ipod? _________________

The nano has the most features in its class. Hell, nothing compares to the nano when you take into account its size, its storage capactiy, and its other features.
The ipods are worth it if they suit your needs. I dont want to take this thread off topic - maybe your anti-ipod comments are suited to a different thread?
The ipod is fantastic for an mp3 player. It has good battery life a plethora of accessories, among other great features - not to mention its asethetically very stylish, though that is subjective.
The nano is the only flash player on the market with more than 1gb of flash memory. If you need a solid state player with more than 1gb, the nano is worth it. _________________

Good to see someone got an ipod...puting video in there can be headache, Quicktime 7.x pro doesn't do the job well, when you want to convert divx rmvb etc. Let me if u need software, i got one really good, convert almost everything and it designed for ipod video and psp. _________________ Music is my soul

J-H : what program are you using? I havent spent much time with itunes, but so far i've found it to be hard to get it to do what I want. I'm about to get Anapod.
CCJc : thanks for the compliment. Dual crts take up a lot of space, but I have a lot of desk space to play with.
Concinnity: the pictures come up alright to me. They dont look pixelated. I've just had a closer look at the photos I put on it and they look like they've been compressed (but obviously the ipod doesnt do that), so I'm guessing those photos had colours on the boundary of what the ipod can display. _________________

Use Cucusoft ipod movie/video convertor, does almost every format from avi/asf/wmv/rm/rmvb/mpeg/mpeg2/vob and more
Other program I found the graphic and sound not sychronise.
Donwload
after you covert a video, make a new playlist in itune, drag and drop the video into the playlist then update the ipod. The video will appear in your ipod/video/playlist/xxx xxx = name of your video playlist.
if itune reject the video and disallow add the video to playlist, it mean the format is not compatiable to ipod, it need to be 320 by 240 or 480 by 480, sound support mp3 vbr all the way to 160kbps or aac format. extension need to be .mov or .mp4
some hint, i think for video 128kbps vbr is the max sound quality should use unless its from vob(dvd rips), battery life for video is not good, 4mins mtv at least 5-8% battry life gone.
Enjoy!!!! _________________ Music is my soul

Well, I finally got a case for my ipod..
Didnt get the case I wanted. I really wanted the vaga leather pda-look one, but alas, that would have cost me over $100.
Reluctant to spend so much of my cash on something like a music player case, I ended up with an ifrogz case. Gosh.. if I try and compare it to what I might have gotten with the vaja case, I would probably rate this a 2/10
It is a perfectly fine case, made of some silicone material... nothing can beat the feel and style of leather..
Um.. yes.. its red... and it has that paw on the click wheel..
I must have had a brain explosion though on the website it looked far better... a much darker, thicker red |

I'm about to get an iPod myself, but being a poor uni student, I don't have much money, *sigh*
I would like to purchase the 30 gb one (or a capacity less "overwhelming," as it were) but I will settle for the iPod Nano. In terms of durability and sound quality (my main concern is bass), how reliable, sturdy, durable is it? and how is the sound quality.
I'll mainly use it for music only and not for videos. I have other hardware that will more than suffice. _________________

Mine has only skipped once or twice in the 2-3 months I've had it and I use it on a daily basis on my way to work (train, bus, bit of walking - sometimes running so I get to the bustop before the bus leaves -__-).
As far as I know, sound quality is excellent. The DAC inside it is top notch. This is my first music player so I cant really compare it to anything else. Bass and sound quality is mostly determined by your earphones/speakers. I hope to get a good pair of earphones soon, to replace my broken pair.
Durability... I dropped mine on to concrete on my way to work while I was fiddling around with it in near total darkness early in the morning. It still works perfectly and doesnt have a scratch, though the dock connecetor is a bit out of shape (dropped from about waist height. T_T;
I dont use mine for videos. The occasional music video. I've also had FF: AC and GITS: Innocence on it (about 500mb entire feature), but unless you are fluent in Japanese, the subtitles will be too small to read clearly. Photos are nice and crisp.
It has problems reproducing shades of grey to black though.
I dont like itunes.. it seems so clumsy. I use either anapod or foobar to transfer things across. |
