Thanks for the suggestions. Being in the Town Hall kinda makes you go all formalish. *thinks of all the counsellors and shudders* If you saw Sydney matinee, I'm sorry it was all my fault. If they don't fire me, I promise I will do better next time.
Come see us next year. We'll make sure you see the best standup comedy show ever! |

Went to the evening concert in Syd. It was very enjoyable - the main thing was the awfully large line to get in (we turned up at 7.15). Perhaps next time you should start letting people in earlier?
Also, sitting in the back of the gallery, there were people wandering past regularly (staff, audience and seemingly random persons), not to mention a choir practice going on nearby.
Looking forward to next year's already, and hopefully more focus on anime music. All things considered, a job well done by everyone. |

me and my friends were like, ahhh. are they reading it for the first time?? but hey, you guys did a good job of a pretty hard.. speech.. in front of what, 1000 people?

holly, yes the speeches sounded quite unpolished, but that was because the MCs were literally practicing at the very last minute, and in order for any speech to sound relaxed, the people need to have been able to practice and memorise their speeches.
These concerts are aimed at promoting symphonic orchestral music to the younger public audience, but that does not mean we are turning them into stand-up comedy fests. It is still a concert, and a concert in the Sydney Town Hall as well.
I don't know about you, but I certainly didn't know alot of the stuff that the MCs had in the speech, so I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say there should be more interesting things that we didn't know |

Yea I do understand that. hehe. sorry for making it sound like i hate the speeches, i didn't. Well, i didn't mean stand upp comedy type things, that would be, not what i think eminence is looking for, just: less wow this is great stuff. However I do understand why that needs o be done.
i think, overall more videos would be good. I don't mean to take away from the orchetsra, they were great, but i guess to a not-so-musicall audience, it would be good esp when playing not too well known pieces. (i'm not trying to bag anyone/thing out.) just a suggestion. |

I'm sorry I even mentioned standup comedy. I have no idea what I was saying. Sometimes these fingers just type random things. |

I think that might be a trick of the photo actually
Bit hard to tell with the little versions
Hey Suri! I can def get a CD or DVD out to you. There's probably too many for email. Is there a postal address I can send it to? PM me! Congrats on the new appointment too!

(is this q for me? in case it is...) I sort of learn! I'm doing a Digital Media degree at COFA (same as viv and menchi - poster artists extraordinaire), which means we work with digital images an awful lot. (But I actually "major" in animation!)
We did have one b&w analogue photography course, and a studio photography course back in 1st year. I'm doing an analogue colour photography elective this semester which I'm really excited about!!
Yep I did have a good spot for a few of these! Sorry to the audience members I may have annoyed while taking photos |

i think you should do a double take and sort out which hand is hers and which belongs to the violinist behind her |

I knew a guy who did this course.
Whats your feedback on it? I was considering doing it afterhours. but I heard the curriculum is too broad. any design theory, flash, photoshop, painter, d.art kind of learning? |

Well I've procrastinated long enough so here I am. Long story short, I saw a poster at the Jusco in Chatswood, no one could drive me so I took a 3 hour train and slept over at my uncles. And belive me, it was worth it.
I was sold purely on the final fantasy and couldn't care less about the studio Ghibli side. But after hearing the pieces from Laputa and Porco Roso (the only 2 films I liked from that studio), it opened my eyes to Joe Hisaishi.
There were two pieces however that made it very special for me. Main Theme (FFIV) and Katamari on the rock. Both what I consider to be the most adventurous pieces of the show. Main theme and along with most other pieces from pre FFVII titles have never been heard in full orchestra (bar Tina's theme and final fantasy). The addition of it being a violin solo in the middle of a medly made it call out to me like no other piece.
Katamari on the rock was similarily ground breaking to me, but I guess it's self explainitory. Though I felt it was slightly neutered by the lack of vocals.
Here's to more adventurous pieces that no one would have heard before
Other pieces I thoroughly enjoyed were the opening piece and shadow of the colossus.
I'm definately coming back next year if there's more final fantasy. And if main theme and katamari on the rock is included on the CD you've got yourself a CD sale right here. |
