[although uwah!! you've got to love Miyazaki's style]

I (personally) dislike Miyazaki's style. In terms of artwork, it's far too simple and plain.
But, I'm quite in love with the creative storylines. Miyazaki's productions has got to be the only ugly anime I'll willingly agree to sit down and watch.

lol i know what you mean, lots of people have said that his work is quite ugly - and when i first started watching, the faces seemed too flat for an anime. but it really grows on you - now i even think howl looks cute xDD yesh and the creative storylines are definitely up there with the awesome music ^^
you know i heard his son's made a film too, although they fought over its production, or something like that _________________ free popcorn for the first 50 clickers |

Since there are some coments on Miyazaki's style being too simple / ugly, can you guys give me some examples of what you consider to be good looking anime? Because I don't really see much difference.
And if the story draws you in, thats really the only thing that matters...
Oh, I love Porco Russo most. Very romantic. |

^What I think is good art...
Probably the Kenshin Seisouhen movie, and (these aren't anime BUT), Death Note manga, anything by Ai Yazawa (Nana, Kagen no Tsuki), Wallflower (which is gothic art- though the storyline sucks) and and GOTH by Kenji Odawa.
Think of it this way. Would you read a book that's poorly written?
Oh, and I love Porco Rosso too _________________ "I have a love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine, and a rage in me the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other." -The Modern Prometheus |

I love Miyazaki art. Particularly the earlier films when everything was drawn by hand. Can't really see that on dvds now, since they've been enhanced... colors are weird.
=) And I think it fits well with his films.
Ugly to me... is Initial D Stage 1 haha but then you get used to it anyway. _________________
