i personally want to learn every instrument out there XD
right now most preferably guitar, violin, flute and saxaaamaaphoooone!(as homer simpson says XD)
already have a guitar, just need to buy a book, probably try to buy a violin next since theyre usually quite cheap.
Did you (hiro) get to choose what instrument to play, or did your parents kinda just gave you the violin and sent you to lessons?
(i know i wanted to learn piano when i was like 5 but didnt get the chance till i was 9, so right now i'm assuming you had a conscience of wanting to play music at the age you started) |

my sis told me that the violin is the most expensive instrument to learn... because you need to change violins as you grow older... [i think this applies more to when you're young] but also violins are expensive and the lessons are generally more expensive than other instrument [eg. flute or piano]
and i think hiro posted up earlier in this thread or the old thread [haha that got locked because we spammed it with our convos] that his mum made him learn the violin and he hated it at first but then grew to love it... is that right?? someone correct me if im wrong... |

yea bb~ u're right~~
but..violin isnt that expensive.. i saw one... that was only $188
i think its good enough for a violin beginner...
but a set of violin strings r pretty expensive..like around $21~22 or even more...compare to piano..violin is cheaper _________________

even pianos will cost 100 bucks or something to retune and it's pretty much yearly basis (of course it's depending how often you play it). How often do you have to restring a violin? hope it's not weekly or anything n dun forget the bow, you need to restrinng it too i think.
200 bucks? that's pretty good value for beginners, and probably you might want an electric one, if you wanna keep practising in secrecy and maintain good neighbours just kidding _________________ I dunno better things to write for my signature so here it goes! |

i dont know about 100 or 200 bucks
wouldn't the violin be super crap?
even for beginners.
If the violin's crap and produces crap music, as a beginner you'd be pretty damn turned off.
i'd say at least double $200
but eh, i'm not sure. since i dont play violin or anything. but then buying a violin here and say.. in china is a big difference also? erghhhhhhhh @_@
heheh
I do wanna get a violin later though when i have the money so
HIRO ANY TIPS DUDE? haha |

She did attempt to teach me piano but having white and black coloured fingerboards got me too confused. I stick to my black fingerboard thank you very much. lol

I was told "here hold this, now play", then I just promptly did a handstand in front of the teacher.
That's how I started.
Anyway... a beginner violin, you can purchase it for $200 or something. It's crap but that's because you haven't practiced long enough (duh... beginner). In time, you will be able to produce sound which excede the limit the violin can offer and you go ahead and buy a new one.
Violin strings vary in price. It ranges from $9~$45 per string. Depends on which string and what brand. Dominants are recomended from Beginners to Pros. I use Pirastro's Evah Pirrazzi but thats a bit expensive. Dominants are pretty tough and dont break often. Evah Pirazzis do... Maybe once a month? If I practice like comp mode, I'll go bad in max 3 weeks.
Same as rehair on the bow. It cost around $50~$90 depends on where you go. I only started rehairing on my 5th year of playing. One, because I grew so before I needed a rehair, I had a new bow and two, I didn't play or wasn't able to play pieces which was aggressive enough or had that intense sound where there's a more likelyhood of having the hair snap out.
If you want to become a full on pro... international pro, yes violin is extremely expensive. However, if you just doing it for fun, no, it can be quite cheap~ _________________

I've got a "A.E.Smith" violin. It's Australian and it's the only decent maker in Australia~! Don't have money for the best... otherwise Eminence will be... pretty rich. _________________

I am so tempted to go and buy a violin haha...
Well theres a limit to crap violins i'm sure. but if you say $200 is okayyy hmm *drools* Although i think i'll still go for something slightly better, to save myself from buying a new one too fast.. ha ha i'm so up myself. I guess it really depends how committed and serious you'll be.
I know as long as its not some $40 violin from EBay its okay. There are so many ppl who go "WOW $50 violin! on ebay!" and buy it. And probably chucked it out the window haha.
But erh, if the violin is SUPER uber crap then it'll probably be even harder for a beginner to learn. ?
And then when you say $200 violin. If you go online theres twenty thousand different $200 violins. @_@ How do you.. choose which one. |

There's not much thing about choosing in the beginning. You first learn posture and everything, where the arm goes, where the hands go. Then after a few months you actually get to play tunes lol... ok maybe I exaggerate but nonetheless...
In the end, you like the fiddle, you buy it. You don't, then you don't. Simple. _________________

depends what kind of a mind you're in when you take up the violin, cause you want to treat it with some degree of seriousness, with the cost that'll hurt the wallet quite a bit...
You can start out on the streets and become a performer there if you want, few central performs do that occasionally.
If you have a mind set on the higher highlights, then its not an easy path, you'd pretty much need to have natural talents, or one drawn up from months of hard sweat =/ _________________

becoming a professional at any instrument (or anything for that matter) always takes a lot of time and dedication.
violin or any orchestral strings are probably the hardest in my opinion. - It is because there aren't any frets on the board where you press the strings down so your notes may be off and you have to practice really hard to remember the positions of where notes are. Heaps of visual memorisation XD and very good aural skills. |

Perfect pitch in one ear?
That's unheard of as it's the brain that determines you have perfect pitch or relative pitch. You all have either perfect pitch or relative pitch.
A lot of people think that having perfect pitch is an advantage but does not necessary mean so. For example, Ayako has relative pitch. She has no idea what a note is until she is told. However, once she knows which one of the notes, she can work the rest out easily, just as if she had perfect pitch. What's more, she plays more in tune in general than I do so...
For people like me who has perfect pitch, there is also a disadvantage. We cannot transpose easily as we tend to think "a perticular note" = C or "another note" = Bb or something. Relative pitch people can say "a particular note" = 2nd note of the scale etc and then transpose up and down wherever they please. _________________

i've got relative pitch
