I got one,,got it early this year from Nihon(Japan), AUD$430 + 1 game
Got a 512mb MSD, currently playing rip games. Love SuperMario 3 on PSP, Metal Slug is good too. I am happy with PSP battery life, but disappointed
about MP4 video quality. Sign..Sony force everyone to get UMD video. _________________ Music is my soul

I would have to say no, I'm not much of a portable gaming fan in general, and not much games interest me.
Portability, the battery life is a major disappointment for roughly 3.5hrs and its pretty chunky. Considering how much functionality sony has crammed into this small unit i'd say its doing way too many things than it should specialise in.
But if i wanted something portable thats entertaining, i'll head opt for the ipod instead, makes sleeping on the trains more pleasant haha _________________

not much of a portable gaming fan here, but i think PSP are cool, if somehow there's a technology where u can fold ur monitor, whoah wouldn't that be cool, i wish i can have a small screen (A4 size) where i can just load PDF files and read journals for my uni studies, especially when waiting for trains in sydney _________________ I dunno better things to write for my signature so here it goes! |

You want electronic paper or for now, a tablet pc?
I'm hardly a gamer. The PSP seems to work well for the few hours that I've used one for. Battery life and is a bit of a downer. The touch screen of the nintendo device is very innovative. Nintendo fan here.
On dead pixels, I'l have a guess and say you will have a hard time trying to warranty a machine with only a couple of pixels. Its a manufacturing flaw that all lcd screens have. Its a limitation of the current lcd technology. LCD monitors for pc have special clauses under their warranty regarding dead pixels. _________________

Sony responds to PSP dead-pixel reports
SCEA downplays widespread reports of LCD screen problems, says warranty is still in effect and defective units can be exchanged.
Soon after the PSP launched in Japan last December, reports began to surface that some units' LCD screens suffered from pixels that were either permanently light or dark. Within 24 hours of the portable's North American launch, similar complaints began to reverberate around the Internet. The locus of the complaints was, ironically, the official PlayStation forums, which was temporarily down yesterday following heavy traffic.
Some gamers' outrage over the perceived issue was fueled by an e-mail allegedly sent out by Canadian game retailer Video Games Plus. The e-mail said the company was "informed by Sony that they will not be warranting any dead pixel units. They are only warranting hardware defects ie [sic] broken buttons, malfunction with drive, and so on."

Sony doesn't have a '0 dead pixel' warranty like Nintendo does, but the official line from Sony is that they will replace any unit that has 3 or more dead pixels. Period. Now, just so you know, if you complain enough Sony will replace it if there is 1 dead pixel. You just have to complain enough, regardless of what VGP says.
Speaking of which, VGP was wrong to make a statement like that. Either they don't want people coming back to them time and again with dead pixel units (since at the moment there is very little stock to accomidate such warranties or replacements), or they are trying to push 'extra' warranties such as the one EB sells to generate more money. I've known them for a long time, and I'm surprised at those guys since they are usually on top of things over there.
As was mentioned by that article, and by me in another thread, ALL LCDs have these issues. The pixels either turn off/on, or they don't. Sometimes they will kick in, and start working. Sometimes a little massaging of the screen will encourage the pixel to start working (wow.. kinda kinky). I have a feeling that Sony will be changing their warranty very soon to include a '0 dead pixel' policy. _________________
