Compulsory studies at school forces you to learn about the 'Big Bang' where the universe originated from a central point and exploded from absoulutely nothing to create the universe as we see it today (which is ever expanding). How the HELL does everything come from nothing?

And also, it is said that before the 'Big Bang' occurred, time did not exist... valid concept but if time does not exist then what reaction occured to create this 'Big Bang'. A reaction which needed time to carry out.
Shocked Shocked Shocked

Stated by my Bio teacher... "it is assumed that since the force of the 'Big Bang' pushes everything outwards (thus the expanding universe), gravatational forces from this orginating point will once again pull the universe back in again, which is known as the 'Big Crunch' Rolling Eyes"

So if this does occur, it could be assumed that since the 'Big Bang' created the universe, the 'Big Crunch' will inevitably end the universe. Once again ending time and creating nothing... The 'Big Bang' is then able to occur again after this. And so theorising that the Universe could have been created more than once. If so, we could be living in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th ..... universe created. Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Very Happy Well i asked this question in yr 10 and I'm in yr 12 now

my dear,

you overlooked the fact that time is something u can not see, just like air or sound.
fact is, time is created by the curves in space that results with them reflecting each other, and thus reflecting 'change', which then allows us to chart when days, months and years to pass.

Although, you are assuming that before the Big Bang, or otherwise known, before life and matter was created, there was nothing. That isn't entirely true.
There was of course something before the big bang, its just that it wasn't something that possesed 'life', and hence people saying "there was 'nothing' before the Big bang".

Also, when the Big Bang occured, time, space and matter was created, and thats why we can say that that was when 'time' was created.

This process where everything was 'created', was inevitable, sooner or later the rocks and energy that was and has always been there was going to smash into each other and create at 'big' reaction. Of course just because these pieces of matter bumped into each other, dosen't mean that everything was created the way they are at this very moment.
Sure, it made the planets and all, but for life to develop and stars to shine as brightly as they are, took time, and possibly more than a hundred billion years.

I have also heard that the 'Big Crunch' may not occur as previously predicted because the expanding force is getting stronger to the point where it will overcome the gravitational forces of the center.

It's also said that universal objects i.e. galaxies and all that are contained within them are tending towards something astrophysicists called the 'Great Attractor'. What that is is unknown, but seems to creating a sizeable gravitational force to attract localised clusters of galaxies.

So while galaxies and clusters of galaxies are heading further apart from each other, they are also tending towards this unknown 'Great Attractor'.

So what do you think man's purpose in life is?

Who would care if in a few billion years time this was all to end... man's effort is meaningless.

Perhaps instead of looking at the purpose of humankind, look at what you can do. Whilst it would be nice if we all got along, that won't happen until we know ourselves.

I prefer the second question.

Assuming that we (the human race) don't tend towards self destruction, as we are inclined to do, then by natural means we have around 1 billion years before the Earth will become uninhabitable. It is true however that our sun will reach a stage of a 'red giant' in around 7-8 billion years which will engulf(destroy) our tiny planet, we will unfortunately perish long before because of natural global warming. I'm not talking about CFC's and the human constructed global warming, but by the increase in temperature caused by the increase in size and temperature of the sun.

Why?

Stars increase their own luminosity + temperature by about 10% every billion years. Theoretically this could make things difficult on Earth.

A billion years is a long time for us humans though, there is the possibility of colonizing other planets (preferably extrasolar) and also hopefully perfected an efficient way to terraform.

We have a lot to do.

Let's get working Smile

With all the global warming... I'm happy I'm born in this generation. Just imagine, in a few generations, it's going to be REALLY hot. Perhaps that Fujitsu ariconditioning system wasn't so bad after all.

but global warming is not all warming..... some parts of the world will actually be colder and that is not good either =(

apparently the movie "day after tomorrow" is kinda realistic but of course the whole thing won't happen that fast! but the sea current in the atlantic is real! and that is why england is a bit warmer than europe, hey that is interesting haha
