100 Anime
To celebrate the Sydney launch of his new book 100 ANIME, Dendy Opera Quays is proud to host author / filmmaker / curator / composer and all round anime expert Philip Brophy to provide a portal into the wonderfully complex and beautifully exhilarating world of Japanese anime.
Following a screening of the cult series GANTZ - episode 1 (R 18+), Philip will discuss some of the key elements that are currently shaping contemporary ‘teen angst’ anime, as well as demonstrate the connections between anime and manga. Through his discussion of Japanese art traditions and the Japanese approach to computer graphics, audience members will discover how anime transposes graphic energy into dynamic motion.
This evening is a must for anyone who has gleaned the weirdness of anime but could not uncover rhyme or reason for the weirdness; and those who already know and revel in that very weirdness.
Dendy Cinemas would like to thank MADMAN ENTERTAINMENT and PERIBO BOOKS for their assistance with this show.

Yeah... I was hoping I'd get free tickets. >< damn...
But yeah... I wonder how many people are actually going and paying the entrance fee?
I watched the whole gantz series.. and didn't like it very much. I thought it was a brilliant idea but a lot of the repetition of scenes pissed me off almost as much as watching peach girl. Particularly pissed off about the ending - more than I was with Evangelion.
I'm interested in seeing what his thoughts are though... but I don't know if it's worth going. ~_~;;; hmmm... _________________
