I was researching on workplace politics, when i came across this article

This really changes the rookie/freshman outlook of saying yes to every job and trying to get noticed and into people's good books.
Which philosophy to go by? |

ahh...welcome to the world of company politics!
I'd say only say yes to things you can perform well within your own abilities right at the time you were asked.
Being noticed might be important, but heck if you're not totally overwhelmed with jobs given and have done it well, why not say yes?
Thats assuming of course you wouldve said no to lots of things thrown at you that you couldnt handle all at once.
Lets use numbers
Boss gives 10 tasks to Employee.
Employee examines these 10 tasks, and thinks they can only do 2 of them given the tight deadlines. And said no to the rest.
That should be understandable, a boss that gives out 10 and "expect" all to be done, unless the Employee was silly enough to agreed to all of 10.
Is just unrealistic for them to finish to a degree of satisfaction on both sides.
1) you being satisfied that youve done a top job of the work
2) Boss is happy with the outcome
The above two would be hindered if things became too hetic given time constraints
I'd go by this philospohy, go with whatever works for you and your boss. In the end and these days, you neogiate what you can do and what you expect to be paid/rewarded for _________________

There is now fast rule on how to say no and apply it to all situations over every single industry.
With regards to non skilled labour, there are plenty of unemployed people looking for work and those non skilled labourers are usually the ones who need the money most. These people are the ones more likely to take on extra work and saying no, no matter how you say it is just not an option if they want to sustain their livelihoods.
Skilled traders on the other hand, espcially those with tens of years of experience are in more of a position to negoatiate what is and what is not acceptable. _________________

hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii saaaantaaa
The topic of the thread doesnt state a framework that works for all cases. Like with out legal system, everything works on human principles and cases.
If the unskilled feels they need to collect as much tasks as they can inorder to support their livelihood, then by no means does the website overrule that notion.
What it simply shows are just choices and possible scenarios that it could be applied to.
Its simply a matter of choice.
And hence, whats comfortable for you, and your boss. _________________
