Composer Joe Hisaishi Receives Japan's Medal of Honor

Composer Joe Hisaishi, who is well-known for scoring the soundtrack to many of Studio Ghibli's films, was awarded Japan's Medal of Honor with the Purple Ribbon.  He, along with more than 650 others, was presented with the award on November 3, 2009, which recognized those who have made significant academic or artistic contributions to Japan.

Joe Hisaishi's work with Studio Ghibli began with Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.  His subsequent collaboration with Director Hayao Miyazaki would include soundtracks to Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and more recently, Ponyo.
