Ok, i couldnt think of a better topic titling to give this thread so here I go.

Whats a great gizmo/techie device you've seen at the shop and always wanted to get?

For me, I wanted a GPS thing to navigate around the city rather than people telling me which lanes to change and streets to turn into xD

A high-powered Surefire LED flashlight. The small shirt-pocket-sized ones give out more power than the much larger 2D cell flashlights and their runtime is also very good.
These things cost over $100 each but the light output from them is amazing. Surefire are one of the most popular manufacturers of tactical flashlights (read gun lights for the U.S. special ops and SWAT). Their quality and reliability is second to none and the manufacturing methods inevitably trickle down to their consumer line of flashlights.

I think i should be a salesperson for Surefire.

A Macbook Pro. Guess I will wait until either Apple refreshes their MBP range, or my ASUS W3N dies, whenever comes first.

I've gotta use my student card for *SOMETHING* Laughing

Heh, those Surefire flashlight do rock. I have a cheap LED flashlight knockoff from HK, but even those are very very bright, although they won't be as durable or reliable.

You can buy a Bluetooth GPS dongle. Well it's an extra thing you dangle with you, but it's smaller than a GPS receiver unit. Cool

The Surefire lights use CR2 batteries which last for 10 years so you can keep them for emergencies. Otherwise, they're useful for blinding attackers at night, or for those macguyver-wanna-be moments.

Or just get a supported phone. That software works on a Nokia N70.

Thats not a keyboard.

THIS is a keyboard.
Also, I want!

Yes. The LEDs on the keyboard changes depending on what you have it set at. E.g. Holding down Shift will make all the letters on the keyboard change to CAPS.
As do the icons, and even the keys when you're playing games

It uses cold nitrogen gas (derived from heating liquid nitrogen) to cool the furnace. It can reach as low as -150C.

The original IBM Model M is still the best. It's the type that uses buckling spring for the keys instead of the sloshy membranes for tactile feedback. You can even throw it into a dishwasher and get it cleaned. Very Happy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_M

(Although it would cost more for the freight than the actual keyboard if you want to get one from eBay Laughing )

For those non-old school people here (which is like all of you), there's Das Keyboard:

Well, I don't know if admitting this is a good thing or not but....

As I used to work for IBM, I actually I have TWO of those Model M keyboards sitting in a cupboard at home.

I'm thinking that I should put them up on eBay now!
