The winner is ..............................................=Transistor=

The first time I did this question I answered 125 as well, which what majority people answered.

There is the answer and explaination: the correct answer is $100, imagine owner X start with $0 in cash register, what happen after the incident. He will $-75 in register + -$25 product cost = $100 bucks.

So if during this incident, the shop owner X already has the product, why do we need to assume it costs $25?
You said it wasnt a trick question, so why did you tell us useless information? You tricked us by telling us it wasnt a trick question? Razz

lets do this one!

family of three goes to a motel, overnight costs $30. father, mother and the son pays $10 each. the boss decided to give them discount. so overnight costs only $25. boss told the assisstant to return the $5. the assisstant steals $2. left with $3... so each of the family member gets $1 back.
so it means they paid $9 each, therefore.... $9 times 3 is 27, plus the $2 got stolen by the assisstant.. $27+$2=$29
QUESTION: where is the other $1 ??

hehehe... tricky tricky...but its very easy! Wink

you said the overnight cost is only $25 after the discount. so the assistant takes $5 of the money up to them and gives them a dollar each and keeps 2 to himself.

in the end they were only charged $25 total. but recieved only $3 change while teh assistant keeps the other $2. add them up and you get your $30.

the other part is just there to confuse you?

haha! problem solved!
yea thats the right way to look at that question.
the original question looks confusing...it says the family member ended up paying $9 each, then 9 times 3 = 27 then plus the stolen $2 = $29
so all together end up with $29. asking where is the other $1. so it will add up to the $30 in the beginning..
just the '9 times $3 then plus $2' part looks very confusing...trying to tirck us. Cool

Damn, I was too lazy to type up. It looks liek I have to.

Ok Imagine, shop X owner start with $0 in register. Now person A want to buy that $25 product and he paid $100 fake cash, shop X own took the $100 fake cash to exchange with real $100 from shop Y own, now shop X owner has $100 in his register, and he have to pay back $75 real money back to person A. Person A took the money and gone with $25 dollar product. How much is in shop Y owner's register? $25 real cash right. When shop Y owner came back with the fake $100, shop X owner have to pay him $100 real cash (from owner own pocket of course). Now shop X owner has $25 + -$100 = $-75 in his register, and that fake $100 obviouly value at nothing. Shop Y did not lose anything because he got a real $100 back. To conclude this, shop X owner now has -$75 in his register + the -$25 product person A took. Thus shop X owner lost -75+-25 = -100 dollars. If you still dont understand, ask transistor to explain with his coin method. Laughing

i read this part as "under no argument does shop x pay...."
so i thought X didnt pay Y back.

you should word if more carefully and use proper grammer. (not to offend you)
just a tip for next time you give a riddle. that way it is easy to understand.

Thats why I put down in the question assume cost price is same is sale price for this product, otherwise the answer will be $75+what ever cost of that product.

What? I thought that Shop X had to pay Shop Y $100, though. My answer was thus $200. Oh well, this is quite confuzzling.

EDIT: If you want a difficult question...

A certain positive integer is a perfect square. In decimal form it has six digits, all less than 7. If each digit is increased by 3, the result is the decimal form of another perfect square. Determine the original integer.

111556...?

111556^(1/2) = 334
111556 + 333333 = 444889
444889^(1/2) = 667
-------------------------------------------
Or if you can't understand that....try this
334^2 = 111556
111556 + 333333 = 444889
667^2 = 444889

I have no idea. I just copied one of my AMOC questions out of the set that was due last month...that I never did. If you really want to know, I can post the answer when I receive it. Laughing
